Torque Miata lug nuts to 65 to 87 ft-lb (about 76) in a star pattern, and know your bolt pattern before buying wheels. NA, NB, and ND are 4x100; the NC is 5x114.3.
Bolt patterns. The NA (1989-97), NB (1999-2005), and ND (2016+) all use a 4x100mm pattern with 12x1.5 studs. The NC (2006-15) breaks from the family with a 5x114.3mm pattern. Wheels do not swap between an NC and the others, so confirm the pattern and the hub bore before you order.
Torque and pattern. Bring the nuts up snug by hand first, then torque to 65 to 87 ft-lb in a diagonal star sequence, not around the circle. The star pulls the wheel down square against the hub. On the 4-lug cars the star is just an X across the four nuts.
Do it in stages. Run all nuts to about half torque in the star, then finish each to full spec in the same order. This seats the wheel evenly and avoids warping a rotor by clamping it crooked.
No impact for final torque. Snug with an impact if you like, but always set final torque with a click wrench. Impact guns overshoot wildly and stretch studs or crack alloy wheels.
Re-check after 50 miles. New wheels, or any wheel just refitted, should be re-torqued after the first short drive. Fresh mounting surfaces settle and nuts can lose a little clamp load.
Skip anti-seize on studs unless you deliberately reduce the torque to compensate for the lubrication; a dry, clean stud is what the 65 to 87 ft-lb spec assumes. A light wire-brush of rusty threads is fine.
