Replace the timing belt on both the 1.6 (B6) and 1.8 (BP) NA/NB engines at 60,000 miles or roughly five years, whichever comes first. These are non-interference engines, so a snapped belt will not bend valves, but it will leave you stranded, and the belt hardens with age regardless of miles. This is one interval you never gamble on.
