The NC uses a compact rear differential tied to the gearbox by the PPF (power plant frame), a rigid brace that keeps drivetrain movement tight. Higher trims got a limited-slip; base cars are open. The diff and its mount bushings are a common source of clunks as they age.
The PPF is central to how solid an NC feels. It links transmission and diff so the whole driveline moves as one unit.
